Evaluation of ERA5 Precipitation Accuracy Based on Various Time Scales over Iran during 2000–2018

In regional studies, reanalysis datasets can extend precipitation time series with insufficient observations. the present study, ERA5 dataset was compared to observational from meteorological stations in nine different zones of Iran (0.125° × 0.125° grid box) for period 2000–2018, and measurement criteria skill detection were applied analyze datasets. The results daily analysis revealed that correlation between observed larger than 0.5 at 90% stations. Also, standard relative bias indicated overestimated zone 6. As criteria, frequency index (FBI) proportion correct (PC) showed data could capture events. Correlation confidence comparisons daily, monthly, seasonal scales higher monthly scales. followed results, most underestimations during summer belonged 1 coastal area Caspian Sea convective precipitation. addition, some complex mountainous regions associated precipitation, especially northwest (zone 6)
